How do you express care at work?

Entrepreneur, Gary Vaynerchuk (@garyvee), found the best marketing strategy is caring. His example of caring for a customer on a snowy evening before Christmas became the standard for how the employees treated customers. We continue to solidify our company values and personal character with each engagement. How does each customer interaction display your care?

What are the legends of customer care where you work? What were the heroic efforts made to care for a particular client? What has been the long-term impact on the company?

Your care of the end user is easier to track through compony customer satisfaction metrics. The trickier relationship is those within the firm, your co-workers. You know the guy that never cleans up after himself in the company kitchenette or delivers the weekly report exactly 17 minutes late every week.

If we want a better world, it starts with you and me and caring for people like him.

Displaying care can be through even minor but intentional action.  Listening to the internal customer needs and understanding how your end product is their source material. Realizing a format change to your reports will simplify their workload. Setting expectations with the customer, so the delivery driver doesn't waste her time backtracking. Conducting the end-of-day check-in early enough for the single dad to finish last minute actions and get to daycare before accruing fees for picking up his daughter late.

What is one personal example of changing something at work to make the job better for others? What were the results?

The company bottom line and the weekly paycheck are important, but our wellbeing is with us every moment. How we choose to think about and treat those we interact with on a daily basis will have a greater impact on us than them.

If you are a jerk at work, co-workers can move to a new job. However, you get the chance to be miserable all day, every day.

The act of caring for others has a boomerang effect and will minister to our souls as well. Flip a coin; heads you win, tails you win. Las Vegas won't give you the same odds.

How do you feel after caring for others? What physical benefits do you experience after caring for someone?
